Irwin Mitchell LLP – A top 50 full service law firm where the needs of our clients come first

Farhana Shahzady

I am a Partner in the Family team in London. I have over 17 years’ experience in family law, dealing with complex cases and high net worth clients as well as more everyday cases.  I deal with the full range of matrimonial, co-habitation and separation issues, including dealing with same sex relationships and modern families. I have a particular expertise in contested financial and children disputes at court.  I also have considerable experience in dealing with child related disputes, regarding issues such as relocation, school fees and top up child maintenance. I regularly represent both mothers and fathers.

My clients value my strategic and results-driven approach, which often leads to early settlement. I’m an astute litigator, but also committed to keeping things out of court whenever possible. As a collaboratively trained lawyer I’ll always try to explore alternative dispute resolution, since this is often cheaper and less acrimonious. If it’s necessary to go to court however, I’ll always discuss how costs of the case can be best managed since I know this can be an added stress for my clients at an already difficult time.

Charles Russell Speechlys LLP– an international law firm focused on protecting and growing our clients’ wealth

Practising family law at the highest level requires judgement, empathy, discretion, common sense and a willingness to listen to clients’ concerns and priorities. The welfare of children is paramount as is an understanding of the most complex financial arrangements.

At CRS, we understand the needs of people with complex lives. Many of our clients are from international families, often with significant assets. We have pioneered a cross-disciplinary approach to family law and work alongside our experts in tax, trusts and succession, disputes, immigration, property and other areas of law to deliver a bespoke service to our clients.

Today our work is not just about what happens once a relationship breaks down. It is increasingly important to plan for the future and we advise on a wide range of relationship agreements and wealth preservation strategies.  With a leading family mediation practice, as well as arbitrators and collaboratively trained lawyers, flexibility is key and we will recommend innovative ways to resolve disputes based on a deep understanding of how to build an agreement. Litigation should usually be the last resort, but when there is no agreement to be found, we protect our clients’ interests fiercely – and successfully – when court proceedings are required.
