UK Youth

A leading national charity committed to ensuring all young people are empowered to build bright futures, regardless of their background or circumstances

UK Youth is a leading national charity, founded in 1911, committed to ensuring all young people are empowered to build bright futures, regardless of their background or circumstances. It’s their mission to provide all young people with access to appropriate, high quality services in their local community or online. UK Youth sit at the heart of a national network of members – Sarah Wadham’s great aunt Lesley was one of the early UK Youth members – to support an estimated four million young people across the UK. Together with this network, they offer support, advice and training to equip young people with the vital life skills needed to engage in education, volunteering and employment.

UK Youth could not do any of their important work without the support of committed businesses and individuals. They have a range of innovative partnership and sponsorship opportunities for businesses looking to enhance their corporate social responsibility strategy.

They also run a number of exciting fundraising events – a Gala Dinner and Auction, Art for Youth London and North exhibitions and they also have places in the London Marathon, Royal Parks Half Marathon and London to Paris Bike Ride – which are all brilliant ways to get involved with their work.

The Rose Vouchers for Fruit & Veg Project

Early Intervention – Preventing Diet-related Health Problems and Helping Children Enjoy a Healthy Life

Alexandra Rose Charity was established in 1912. Today our mission is to give families access to fresh fruit & vegetables in their communities. Rose Vouchers are given to parents with young children and expectant mums on low incomes so they can buy fresh fruit & veg meanwhile developing the skills and confidence to give their families the healthiest start. The project is an innovative and effective retail response to tackle childhood obesity, diet related ill health and food poverty.

Rose Vouchers are worth £3 per child per week (double if the child is under one) and can only be redeemed at markets selling fresh fruit & veg. Families are registered through partnerships with local Children’s Centres, ensuring engagement with existing activities and ‘wrap-around support’ focused on health and wellbeing. Children’s Centres benefit by making contact with hard to reach families. Markets get trade from people who might not otherwise use them, thus boosting local economies. Since 2014, we have helped over 1,200 families to live healthier lives through access to more than £220,000 worth of fresh fruit & veg. In London, we work in the Boroughs of Hackney, Lambeth, Hammersmith & Fulham and Southwark. In 2016, we launched in Barnsley, our first project outside London, and in late 2017 we launched in Liverpool.
